Community Connections provides a range of support services which are
developed from an individual planning process. By working in partnership
with persons and their families, and by utilizing the resources available in the
broader community, we hope to assist persons with intellectual disabilities to
become more interdependent in the community.
Employment Supports
Community based employment is a primary emphasis. Whether it involves
basic job preparation from developing resumes to job searches, to more
intensive training and job placement, staff support through job coaches and
other resources are used to achieve successful training and employment
outcomes in the community. This could include individual job placement,
work crews, or self employment. All contribute to achieving meaningful work
that is recognized by the community.
Community based employment has greater outcome potential for persons
with intellectual disabilities. It promotes integration with non-disabled
persons. It provides an opportunity to earn income in a community setting. It
develops greater self esteem.
Community Connections also offers centre-based employment through
various business operations. This option also provides training and
meaningful work but in a more sheltered environment. Centre based
business operations are recognized for quality work and provide competitive
services to the community. These include custom woodworking and furniture
